The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has announced that Ukrainian long-range strikes hit multiple strategic military and energy targets inside Russia, including a weapons production plant, an oil refinery, logistics infrastructure and a warship, as Kyiv continues to intensify attacks deep within Russian territory.
In a statement on Saturday, Zelensky said the latest operation was part of Ukraine's ongoing response to sustained Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
"Ukraine continues applying long-range sanctions in response to Russian strikes. Last night, the warriors of our Defense Forces hit targets across different regions of Russia that are fueling this war," the Ukrainian president said.
According to Zelensky, one of the key targets was a plant located in Russia's Kirov region, which he described as an important supplier of military equipment used by Russian forces.
"Once again, a plant in Kirov was struck – the one supplying components for the weapons Russia uses to attack our people. That's about 1200 kilometers from Ukraine's border," he stated.
The Ukrainian leader also disclosed that military operations targeted critical energy and logistics infrastructure across several Russian regions.
"Also hit were an oil refinery in Tyumen, a logistics facility in Yekaterinburg, and a fuel and lubricants depot in Rostov-on-Don," Zelensky said.
He further revealed that Ukrainian forces carried out successful long-range operations in the Caspian Sea, claiming the attacks affected vessels linked to military cargo operations involving Iran as well as a Russian naval vessel.
"We also achieved very strong results with long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea – including vessels used in military cargo shipments involving Iran, as well as a warship," he added.
The statement highlights Ukraine's growing ability to project military power far beyond its borders, striking facilities and assets located hundreds of kilometres inside Russian territory. The Kirov facility mentioned by Zelensky lies approximately 1,200 kilometres from Ukraine's border, underscoring the increasing range of Ukrainian long-distance strike capabilities.
Since the war began, Ukraine has steadily claimed expanded attacks targeting Russian military infrastructure, oil refineries, fuel depots, logistics hubs and defence production facilities, arguing that such operations are aimed at weakening Moscow's capacity to sustain its military campaign.
The latest claims also suggest an expansion of Ukrainian operations into the Caspian Sea, where Zelensky said vessels involved in military cargo shipments connected with Iran were among those targeted alongside a warship. Iran has been accused by Ukraine and several Western governments of supplying military equipment, including drones, to Russia during the conflict.
Concluding his message, Zelensky praised Ukrainian troops for carrying out the operation and expressed gratitude for their efforts.
Previously, SaharaReporters reported that Zelensky dismissed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, appointing battle-tested General Mykhailo Drapatyi as his successor in a sweeping military leadership overhaul that follows days of political unrest triggered by the controversial removal of former Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
The shake-up comes less than a week after Zelensky replaced Fedorov, a move that sparked several days of street protests across Ukraine, with critics accusing the president of sidelining one of the country's leading reformers at a critical stage of the war against Russia.
