President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, bringing an end to a body established over two decades ago to oversee the privatisation, sale and lease of federal government landed assets.
The President also directed B.S. Dutsin-Ma, who served as Secretary of the committee, to immediately stop parading himself or acting on behalf of the dissolved committee and the Federal Government on matters relating to its activities.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, all matters relating to the activities of the dissolved committee would henceforth be coordinated by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
The statement read, "The President has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties.
"Henceforth, all matters relating to the activities of the Committee will be coordinated by the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (HAGF)."
The Presidential Implementation Committee was established in 2000 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to oversee the implementation of the Federal Government's monetisation policy, particularly the privatisation, sale and lease of federal government landed assets.
The committee was chaired by the then Minister of Housing and comprised representatives from several key government institutions, including the Federal Ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health and Agriculture, as well as the Nigeria Police Force.
Its pioneer Secretary was Professor P.T. Ahire, who was then a Deputy Director in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Other members of the committee were drawn from both the public and private sectors.
The Presidency recalled that on March 22, 2001, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the establishment of a Panel of Inquiry to produce a White Paper that would guide the implementation of its recommendations regarding the committee's operations.
The panel reportedly worked for 21 months before submitting its report to the government.
However, after reviewing the committee's operations, the Tinubu administration concluded that the PIC had exceeded the responsibilities for which it was originally established.
According to the Presidency, the committee's activities had expanded beyond its initial mandate and had resulted in multiple litigations across different parts of the country.
"After careful consideration, the Government has noted that the activities of the PIC had extended beyond its original mandate, resulting in multiple litigations across the country, and the continued existence of the Committee is no longer justified," Onanuga said.
President Tinubu consequently ordered that the committee be dissolved, with the Attorney General of the Federation assuming responsibility for coordinating all matters relating to its activities.
The directive took effect from November 5, 2025, according to the Presidency.
The statement further emphasised that, following the President's decision, the committee had ceased to exist and B.S. Dutsin-Ma had been specifically instructed to stop acting for the committee or representing the Federal Government on any matters connected with the dissolved body.
"Following the President's directive, the PIC stands dissolved, and the erstwhile Secretary, B.S. Dutsin-Ma, is hereby further directed to cease acting on behalf of the committee and the Federal Government on related matters," he added.
