In a statement released Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu urged Muslim faithful to deliberately follow the Prophet’s example of devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility, and selflessness. He said the occasion should be a time for deep spiritual reflection, prayer, and commitment rather than mere celebration. Tinubu asked Islamic leaders to pray for the nation’s peace and stability and to encourage followers to turn the Prophet’s values into practical civic contributions to national development. He also called on celebrants to support the vulnerable and less privileged, and he appealed for sustained national prayers against security threats and socioeconomic challenges affecting the country.
Separately, the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV), in a statement signed by Executive Director Gbenga Soloki, urged Nigerians of all faiths to embrace peace, love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. The group said the Prophet’s birth highlights compassion, unity, and respect for humanity—values Nigeria urgently needs. CAIDOV called on Muslims and Christians to live and work together for a united, prosperous country, reject violence, religious intolerance, and hate speech, and urged religious leaders to promote forgiveness and understanding. It asked government and security agencies to protect lives and property during the celebrations and encouraged youths to become ambassadors of peace. The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to human rights, justice, and non-violence, wishing Nigerians a peaceful Maulud.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan also congratulated Muslims, particularly those in Kogi Central Senatorial District. She described Mawlid as a time to renew commitment to peace, compassion, humility, justice, and coexistence, stressing that the Prophet’s teachings remain relevant today. The senator said the celebration should go beyond festivities to strengthen faith, promote unity, and extend kindness across religious, ethnic, and political lines. She urged Muslims in her district to uphold peaceful coexistence, and called on leaders, parents, and young people to promote moral discipline, dialogue, and support for the less privileged. Akpoti-Uduaghan further appealed to Nigerians to reject intolerance, hatred, violence, and divisive rhetoric, and asked political, traditional, and religious leaders to foster constructive engagement across communities.
