The Nigerian Record: Dr. Franklyn Ogbunwezeh, a political commentator and public affairs analyst, has issued a harsh critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, claiming it has made little meaningful progress in key areas and would lose badly if Nigerians were allowed to vote in a credible election today.

In an interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica, Ogbunwezeh accused the current government of lacking the intellectual depth and strategic foresight needed to tackle the nation’s many crises.

He argued that no official in the administration has shown the ability to clearly outline a solution to Nigeria’s economic and security problems.

“There is no single person in Tinubu’s government that anyone can point to as being intelligent enough to articulate a way out of the challenges confronting the country,” he said.

Ogbunwezeh noted that the government has failed to achieve any notable results in sectors it prioritized during the 2023 election campaign. He pointed to worsening living conditions, including rising costs and persistent insecurity, as evidence of policy shortcomings.

He also claimed that President Tinubu’s popularity has sharply dropped since he took office, suggesting the President would perform poorly in a genuinely competitive election.

“If a free and fair election happens in Nigeria today, Tinubu will not come fourth. That is because he has not achieved anything and he knows that,” Ogbunwezeh stated.

The analyst further criticized the President’s readiness for leadership, alleging that Tinubu sought power more out of personal ambition than a clear plan for national development. He described the administration’s performance since assuming office as proof of governance incompetence.

On security, Ogbunwezeh expressed concern that the government continues to rely on ineffective strategies inherited from past administrations. While acknowledging that insecurity existed before Tinubu’s tenure, he insisted the President bears ultimate responsibility.

“Whatever is happening in the country, the buck stops at his desk, and he has not discharged that charge effectively,” he said.

He painted a grim picture of Nigeria’s current state, describing it as a nation grappling with worsening insecurity, economic distress, and governance failures.

Beyond current politics, Ogbunwezeh touched on the legacy of the Nigerian Civil War and the Biafran conflict, arguing that Nigeria has yet to properly confront and reconcile with the suffering from that era. He said the unresolved grievances and historical wounds of Biafra continue to hinder national unity and development, and that genuine reconciliation is essential for long-term peace and stability
