Osun Governor Adeleke Orders Arrest Of Suspects Over Ally Ajagungbade's Killing, Reintroduces Park Management System

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate arrest of all persons allegedly involved in the killing of Comrade Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife.
Adeleke also directed the immediate vacation of motor parks by rival groups involved in the leadership tussle and ordered the reintroduction of the Park Management System across the state.
Oyeyemi, a known associate of the governor and a member of the Accord Party, was reportedly shot dead at Mayfair Garage in Ile-Ife on Sunday during an alleged dispute over control of the motor park.
The incident reportedly involved Comrade Nurudeen Alowonle and the chairman of Ife Mini-Bus, popularly known as Sibi. Alowonle and Sibi are also members of the Accord Party in Osun State.
Responding to the killing in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke directed the state Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest those responsible.
"The governor charged the Commissioner of Police to act immediately to arrest all those involved. Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book," the statement said.
Adeleke also called on residents to remain calm, while directing security agencies to restore normalcy at the affected motor parks and maintain law and order across the state.
"We call on members of the public to remain calm. We will ensure restoration of peace in all the affected parks and areas. The security agencies are under instruction to ensure the sustainability of peace at all cost," the governor said.
The governor said the government would immediately move to establish a new Park Management System to address disputes and restore order in motor parks and garages across the state.
"We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an executive order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state," Adeleke said.
He also directed the immediate vacation of motor parks by the warring groups involved in the leadership dispute.
Oyeyemi, who was also known as Emir Ajagungbade, had been involved in Osun's transport and park management system and was reportedly a member of the transition committee constituted ahead of Adeleke's inauguration as governor.
He had also been described in previous reports as a political associate of Adeleke and was linked to former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Oyeyemi had previously faced legal controversies after the Osun State Police Command declared him wanted on July 2, 2022, over allegations including murder, cultism and armed robbery.
He was subsequently arrested by the police anti-kidnapping unit and arraigned at the Federal High Court in Osogbo in 2024 on multiple charges, including terrorism, conspiracy and unlawful killing. He was granted bail in April 2024.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Oyeyemi was allegedly shot during a dispute linked to control of the Mayfair motor park.
Details of the confrontation and the identities of those responsible for the shooting remained unclear at the time of the earlier report.
The governor's latest directive places the police under instructions to investigate the killing and arrest those allegedly responsible, while the proposed executive order is expected to formally establish the new Park Management System.
