The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has said it has placed the country on high alert following the ongoing Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The NCDC Director-General, Jide Idris, disclosed this in a health advisory issued following the latest update on the outbreak.
Idris said all necessary preparatory activities were ongoing to ensure Nigeria was prepared to respond to any potential threat arising from the outbreak.
"These measures will continue to be reviewed in line with the evolving epidemiological situation and public health risk assessment."
The NCDC advised travellers arriving from countries with active or relevant Ebola transmission to complete the Health Declaration Form as part of strengthened surveillance and follow-up measures.
It added that "passengers from all other countries are exempted from completing the form at this time."
The Centre also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and watch for symptoms associated with Ebola.
It advised anyone experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention promptly and provide relevant information about their travel or possible exposure history where applicable.
According to the NCDC, the advisory followed a dynamic risk assessment and consultations with public health experts and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The Centre said it remained committed to protecting Nigerians through evidence-based surveillance, preparedness and response to public health threats.
The latest figures showed that as of September 20, 2026, the DRC had recorded 7,672 confirmed cases and 3,699 related deaths, based on data up to September 19.
A total of 886 patients were hospitalised in isolation, representing an increase of 58 confirmed cases and 23 deaths compared with the previous report issued on September 19.
The 58 new cases were recorded in Ituri with 38 cases, North Kivu with 14, Haut-Uélé with five and Tshopo with one.
Of those infected with the Bundibugyo virus, 1,879 people had recovered.
The report also showed that 79.9 per cent of identified contacts of confirmed cases were under follow-up in the affected provinces.
Since the previous European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control report of September 18, 197 new confirmed cases and 94 deaths had been reported.
