The Nigeria Police Force has informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that it has forwarded the investigation report and legal advice on the disappearance of Mr. John Chukwuemeka Anozie, who was allegedly abducted by operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in 2017, to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
The development was disclosed during proceedings in the contempt case filed against the Inspector-General of Police in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/865/2025 between Engr. Nnenna Anozie and the Inspector-General of Police.
According to a press statement issued by the applicant's counsel, Vincent Adodo, the matter came up on Friday, July 24, 2026, before Justice Binta F.M. Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Adodo said the court drew his attention to a Notice of Compliance filed by counsel to the Inspector-General of Police, Stanley Nwodo, stating that the case file containing the legal advice and investigation report had been forwarded to the Attorney General of the Federation in compliance with part of the court's judgment delivered on September 24, 2025.
"We commend the Inspector General of Police for complying with this aspect of the judgment of the Federal High Court," Adodo said.
He, however, noted that the police were yet to comply with other aspects of the judgment, including the release of the Certified True Copy of the duplicate case file to the applicant, the arrest of the officers accused of abducting her husband, their handover to the Attorney General for prosecution, and the payment of ₦2 million damages awarded by the court for violating the applicant's right to freedom of information.
The applicant identified the principal suspects as ASP Anthony Obiozor Ikechukwu and Sergeant Ugochukwu Emeana.
Adodo also praised Justice Nyako for what he described as his "incredible demonstration of humanity and empathy" towards the applicant, whose husband allegedly disappeared after being taken away by SARS operatives from Awkuzu, Anambra State, in June 2017.
"The significant progress recorded in this matter so far has been a direct fruit of His Lordship's sincere commitment to ensuring that the Applicant gets justice," the lawyer stated.
The case has drawn renewed public attention following allegations by the Network of Abuja Left Groups that the Nigeria Police Force has shielded officers allegedly responsible for Anozie's abduction and disappearance.
The coalition had alleged that operatives attached to the former SARS unit in Awkuzu arrested Anozie from his residence in Lekki, Lagos, on June 15, 2017, carting away family documents, cash and two vehicles.
According to the groups, four days after the arrest, Anozie's bank account was allegedly emptied, while his wife, Nnenna, was repeatedly denied access to him despite making several visits to the police facility.
The groups further alleged that ASP Anthony Obiozor demanded ₦5 million from the family and, after they failed to pay, they were prevented from seeing him again.
They also claimed that despite court orders directing the police to either charge or release Anozie, and another order directing the release of his body after the police reportedly claimed he died in custody, the police failed to comply.
The coalition accused the police of frustrating multiple investigations into the matter by allegedly refusing to honour invitations from the National Human Rights Commission and the #EndSARS judicial panel, while calling on the Inspector-General of Police to ensure the prosecution of all officers implicated in the case.
