Lagos Traders Protest At Trade Fair Market, Chant 'Chinese Merchants Must Go'

Traders at the trade fair market in Lagos State have protested against the presence of Chinese merchants, chanting "Chinese must go" and demanding that the traders return to their country.
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the traders are seen gathered at the market while chanting, "Chinese must go!"
The protesters could be heard repeatedly demanding the departure of Chinese merchants from the market.
The reason for the protest was not immediately clear from the footage, and the identities of the organisers or representatives of the traders were not available as of the time of filing this report.
The development comes amid longstanding concerns among local traders and business operators in Nigeria over competition from foreign merchants, particularly Chinese nationals involved in the importation, distribution and sale of goods.
The protesters, however, did not appear to target Chinese goods alone, but specifically called for Chinese merchants operating in the market to leave Nigeria.
