The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will begin the nationwide publication of the personal particulars of candidates nominated for the 2027 presidential, Senate and House of Representatives elections on Saturday, in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.
The electoral body said the documents, contained in Form EC9, will be made available for public inspection at all INEC state offices as well as constituency offices across the country.
The publication is intended to allow members of the public to scrutinise the information submitted by candidates seeking elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Friday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the exercise forms part of the commission's approved timetable for the election.
"The publication of the personal particulars of the presidential and national assembly candidates tomorrow is item 5. Those for governorship and state assembly candidates will be published on August 29," Haruna said, according to TheCable.
"All this is in conformity with section 29 (3) of the Electoral Act 2026, which provides for the publication of these particulars within 21 days of receiving them."
The personal particulars include candidates' full names, gender, residential addresses, educational qualifications, work history, affidavits, and other documents submitted by political parties during the nomination process.
Also confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, said the publication of Form EC9 is a legal requirement under the Electoral Act and forms part of the revised timetable released earlier this year.
"Form EC9 contains the candidates' affidavits, credentials, and other personal particulars that were submitted," Oketola said.
"The documents will be displayed in all INEC state offices and offices in the constituencies. Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, provides for the publication of Form EC9 within 21 days of receipt.
"So, this is in line with the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election released on February 26, 2026."
INEC, however, stressed that the publication of the documents does not amount to the release of the final list of candidates.
According to the electoral body, political parties still have until August 22, 2026, to withdraw or substitute nominated candidates in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The commission said the final list of candidates for the presidential and National Assembly elections will be published on September 12, 2026.
Recall that earlier in February, INEC unveiled a revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, with the notice of election issued on February 13, 2026.
Under the timetable, the publication of the personal particulars of governorship and State House of Assembly candidates is scheduled for August 29, while the publication of the presidential and National Assembly candidates' particulars is fixed for August 1, in accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2026.
