The body of the 20-year-old Miss Favour Agbro from Delta State, who committed suicide after she was allegedly raped by Mr Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu of Asaba, was exhumed on Tuesday for an autopsy as authorities continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Human rights activist Israel Joe disclosed the development in a statement shared on his social media page, saying the post-mortem examination was conducted by the investigating team alongside qualified pathologists.
According to him, the autopsy was carried out in the presence of all relevant parties, including the lawyer representing Ogbonna.
Joe said he and another activist had earlier travelled to Agbaro in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, where Favour had been buried, to monitor preparations for the exhumation.
He added that they met with the deceased's father and other members of her extended family, who made arrangements for the body to be exhumed before the autopsy.
The activist recounted an emotional moment during the exercise, saying that Favour's twin sister insisted on placing food at the graveside before the body was exhumed.
According to Joe, the twin sister brought sardines and bread, claiming her late sister had appeared to her in a dream saying she was hungry.
He said the family's request to place the food in the grave before the autopsy was granted, after which the remains were exhumed for examination.
"The autopsy has just been conducted on the deceased Miss Favour Agbro by the investigating team and competent pathologists with the presence of all parties, including the lawyer of Odogwu Asaba," Joe wrote.
"Her twin sister had brought sardine and bread for late Favour, arguing that she appeared to her, saying that she was hungry.
"She wanted to put the food in the grave as she would be laid to rest immediately after the autopsy analysis by the pathologist in the presence of all parties. It was graciously granted amid wailings, agony, sorrow and tears."
Joe thanked members of the public for supporting the investigation and standing by the deceased's family.
"We wish to thank everyone for their support towards the investigations, and solidarity towards the family at this grievous time of their sudden grief occasioned by Odogwu Asaba. God bless you all. We shall follow up until justice is manifestly seen to have been done," he said.
The outcome of the autopsy is expected to form part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Favour Agbro's death.
Favour tragically died by suicide following an alleged rape by Odogwu of Asaba, a 44-year-old social media content creator, who the deceased alleged lured her to a hotel in Asaba, Delta State capital, and sexually assaulted her.
Before her death, Favour, in a video that went viral on social media, recounted an alleged rape by Ogbonna.
In the video, Favour alleged that Ogbonna lured her to a hotel in Asaba under the pretext of offering her financial help, before raping her and afterward boasting about having taken her virginity.
Favour, who reportedly recorded the emotional video before allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance and dying, alleged that the suspect covered her mouth, raped her, and boasted about taking a woman's virginity for the first time.
She recorded the video before the Delta State Police Command announced the arrest of the content creator over the alleged rape.
In the video, Favour stated that it would be the last time members of the public would see her alive.
