Two female students ( Shirley Betty Nduna and Natasha Tseku) of St Patrick's Secondary School, Chiundura District of Gweru, Midlands Province, Zimbabwe were allegedly caught having sex in a classroom in the night by a security guard who filmed the whole thing on his phone. The two girls both in class four were caught by the guard in their classroom in August. It was alleged that the guard, instead of reporting the two girls, used the video to blackmail them into having sex with him, threatening to expose them to the school if they refused.

The girls, both minors and terrified, gave in to the guard's demands. But the abuse did not stop there. The guard later brought his friend, and when the girls refused to have sex with both of them, they were raped. The girls were powerless and could not fight off two grown men, nor could they shout for help out of fear that their secret would be exposed.

When the girls finally refused to continue having sex with the guard, he became angry and went to the school authorities with the video. The girls were called in and they told the truth, that they had been blackmailed and raped. But the school did not believe them. Instead, school authorities accused the girls of lying to get mercy and treated them as the guilty ones. Both girls were expelled.

Before she left the school, the girl was allegedly beaten by teachers. They beat her severely behind her feet, and the beating was so brutal that she could not walk. Her mother was called to collect her from the school, and when she arrived she found her daughter in pain and unable to walk.

The girl's life has been destroyed by these events. She cannot continue her education, her family has been shamed, and she has become a target in her community. Her reputation is ruined, and she lives in fear of further violence.

When contacted, the Head of St. Patrick's High School, Mr Benson Msindo, did not respond to our inquiries.

This case highlights the extreme vulnerability of LGBTI individuals in Zimbabwe, where same-sex relationships are widely condemned and often met with violence. The reality for many is a life of secrecy, discrimination, and danger. For this young woman, being bisexual has cost her everything—her education, her reputation, and her safety.
