The African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the reported involvement of the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), in political mobilisation activities in support of President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party, in a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Rex I. Elanu, questioned the propriety of a serving Defence Minister engaging in partisan political activities at a time when Nigerians continue to grapple with insecurity, including killings, kidnappings and displacement.
The AAC said the Defence Minister should prioritise the protection of Nigerians and the security of the country rather than participate in political mobilisation for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
"The Defence Minister should be defending Nigerians, not campaigning for the APC," the party said.
The AAC argued that the minister's primary responsibility should be to the Nigerian people and the defence of the nation, rather than the electoral interests of any political party or candidate.
The party said the alleged political involvement is particularly concerning given the persistent security challenges confronting the country.
It added that if Musa had chosen to serve as a political mobiliser for the APC, Nigerians would be justified in demanding his removal from office so that he could pursue what it described as his "new found calling."
The AAC also warned against the politicisation of Nigeria's security institutions, stressing that members of the security establishment should maintain professionalism, neutrality and commitment to the national interest regardless of their political preferences.
The opposition party said Nigerians needed competent leadership, accountability and effective security rather than political rhetoric at a time when insecurity continues to claim lives.
The AAC subsequently urged Nigerians to reject what it described as "the politics of impunity and failed leadership" in the 2027 elections and support what it called a genuine political alternative committed to the "Total Liberation of Nigeria."
"Freedom is on the ballot. Vote AAC," the party said.
